How do you free up space on your phone?
To free up my storage space, I focus on components that store most data like photos, documents, iTunes, streaming, and social media apps. These applications store more data because they are the most used components in your iPhone.
You can download many file types on your device but with iPad storage full, you can no longer save new files, install apps, or download more content. That is why you should know how to free up storage space on iPad to keep the device running and manage your content without device performance stress. When you begin running out of iPad storage space, transfer your data to your cloud storage. Now clean your cache and browsing history. This will create enough room in your device.
Based on statistics, an individual can take photos at least six times daily, visit social media for 2 hours daily, and stream 32 songs in one day. Such activities generate a lot of data that fills your phone quickly, so you should clean it often as follows.
- Move your data to cloud storage
When you store data in the cloud you can access it in real-time but it does not take up space on your iPhone. Cloud storage also acts as your backup strategy but you can move all your data there or choose to move large and heavy files only.
- Uninstall unnecessary apps
You might have downloaded some apps for one-time use like playing a game or registering for specific services. You might never use such apps again but they still occupy space on your device as long as they remain on your iPhone. Free up storage by removing them including apps that look suspicious and those that do not have much value on your device.
- Compress your photos and videos
Your photos and videos take up most of your iPhone’s storage space because they are usually large files. Use your iOS compression apps or install one like File Compressor and Video Compressor from the App Store. These apps minimize the size of your files while maintaining their quality which helps free up space on your device.
- Remove cache from browsers and apps
Browsers and apps temporarily store cache to boost browsing speed and user experience but these files increase quickly and could take up all your iPhone space. Use iPhone Settings to remove cache files or offload the app, and reinstall it to remove temporary files.
- Remove duplicates from iPhone storage
Duplicates are copies of similar data like PDFs, downloaded images, videos, pictures, and Word files. You don’t need these files in your iPhone since you already have their backups in the cloud. Remove duplicates from the following apps.
- Contacts
- Photos
- iTunes
- Downloads
- Documents
You may delete these files manually or use an app to scan your device, and identify, and remove them.

- Remove large files
Large files in your iPhone storage may include video/music editing projects, research work files, and large apps. A few of these files might take up space for hundreds of small files. Move such files to the cloud storage or an external hard disk to keep your device storage free.
- Offload apps from your iPhone
Deleting apps from your iPhone means you also lose all the data in it, but offloading removes the app but retains your data. Use this method to remove clutter and cache from apps you use often. Reinstall the app after downloading it to recover your important data.
- Clean your Downloads folder
Everything you download online like images and official documents is stored in the Downloads folder by default. These files remain in the Downloads folder until the day you transfer or delete them. Visit the folder often and clean it up to avoid filling your storage and affecting your user experience.
- Manage app data
Communication applications like messaging and social media apps like Facebook store a lot of data like videos and photos. App data include cache and clutter gathered during use, and they fill up your device storage fast. Management of this data may involve moving it to an external storage or deleting it.
- Limit offline downloads
Offline downloads mean downloading content like music and videos to access them when you are not connected online. Save your storage space by streaming content and playing games online. Choose an internet provider service that is affordable and lets you save more.
Conclusion
Cleaning your phone storage space should be part of your device’s maintenance best practices. Your iPhone stores data from different apps – like photos, social media, and entertainment. This data is useful but impacts your phone’s security, lifespan, and performance when it increases beyond your device’s capacity. Focus on proper apps, downloads, duplicates, large files, photos, and video management.
